| Boxing is a confidence builder and a proven way to get in shape. It is a practical method of self-defense for men and women, young or old. Boxing toughens you both physically and mentally. Boxers develop speed, power, endurance, balance, and the warrior spirit. Boxing sharpens your reflexes and gives you an assertiveness that makes for a winning attitude at work or school. The Valley View Boxing Club (VVBC) offers three programs that will fit any person's skill and interest level. Program # 1 LEARN TO BOX This program is designed to teach you all the boxing fundamentals; hand wrapping, stances, footwork, punches, punching combinations, defense and safety. Participants will use the heavy bag and punching mitts. There is no sparring in this program. Program #2 BOXING WORKOUT In this program, boxers will build on their basic skills and learn to use a boxer's workout to get in top shape. Boxers will have the opportunity to train 3 - 5 times a week using workouts that include shadow boxing, one-on-one drills, ply metrics, skipping rope and use of the heavy, speed, and double-end bags. Boxers will develop their own boxing style by learning advanced boxing techniques. There is no sparring in this program. Program # 3 TRAINING FOR COMPETITION This level of program provides boxers with the opportunity to compete in sanctioned USA Boxing bouts at the local, regional, and national levels. In this program boxers will learn to use protective equipment, have a tailored training schedule, and spar. Since USA Boxing, Inc. is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) as the National Governing Body of amateur boxing in the United States, outstanding boxers will have opportunities to compete for spots on the World Championship, Pan American, and Olympic Teams.
